BIOFILMS AND HYGIENE IN THE AGRO-ALIMENTARY SECTOR
On December 8th, 2016, a technical day on hygiene’s issues in the agro-alimentary sector will take place in Saint-Brieuc, co-convened by the GIE PURE ZONE – of which GSDI is a founding member -, the IUT of Saint-Brieuc, the Development Zoopole and the ISPAIA (Higher Institute of Animal Productions and Agri-food Industries).
Pursuing the action started by the GIE PURE ZONE at the Food Factory Conference in October 2016, this event aims to gather scientific health and hygiene experts along with professionals of the food industry in order to address the issue posed by biofilms.
Biofilms act as containers of micro-organisms able to adhere to surfaces and to secrete a protective matrix diminishing the efficiency of cleaning and disinfection procedures. Biofilms are responsible of cross-contamination of food, and in France, account for almost 40% of foodborne illness.
WORKING ON INNOVATIONS
To tackle this important food safety issue – connected to the hygiene issue in public and work spaces -, it is necessary to create synergies between various players in order to find practicle and economically viable solutions for the food industry of tomorrow.
Consequently, understanding the formation process of biofilms and analysing the latest innovations in antibacterial surfaces lay at the very heart of this event. And, in this context, GSDI will present the anti-stain and antimicrobial films. When used for the refurbishment of production workshops, these coatings will ensure hygiene standards and compliance with the regulations.
